The Malta Gaming Authority once again participated in the EY’s Malta Annual Attractiveness Survey Conference, with the main theme for this year being: ‘Thinking without the box: Disruption, Technology & FDI.

This conference, which brings together key public and private sector stakeholders in the Maltese economy evaluates Malta’s attractiveness as an FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) jurisdiction and explores alternative scenarios for Malta to maintain its momentum in growth and ability in attracting FDI. The conference was held at the Intercontinental Arena Conference Centre in St. Julians and was addressed by the Prime Minister Hon. Joseph Muscat and Opposition Leader Hon. Adrian Delia.

Paddy Power Betfair has announced that is to withdraw its Paddy Power brand from Italy, but will retain a presence in the country through Betfair Italia.

The PaddyPower.it platform will shut down in December, with customers set to be migrated to Betfair.it.

Sources suggest the decision to withdraw was made shortly after Paddy Power and Betfair completed a merger last year.

New Jersey’s arguments for legalising sports betting will be heard by the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) in early December.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the appeal hearing for December 4, when New Jersey representatives will argue for the overturning of the Department of Justice’s 2015 decision that it should not be allowed to sanction a state-licensed sports betting bill.

The non-profit Foundation of CasinoCoin (CSC), has appointed various senior industry professionals to its new advisory board.

Lee Fenton, chief executive of Gamesys; Britt Boeskov, chief product officer at Kindred Group; and Sam Hobcraft, chief executive of OPL Gaming Group, are among the individuals to have joined the board.

Morten Tonnesen, former director of group marketing at PokerStars; Luke Webster, previously senior regulator of the London Stock Exchange; Jeffrey Haas, experienced online gaming executive; David Sargeant, the founder of innovation agency iGaming Ideas; and James Scicluna, co-managing Partner at WH Partners, have also been appointed.

Efforts to legalise online gambling in Germany could fail if its 16 individual states do not implement the proposed Interstate Treaty on gambling soon, Saxony-Anhalt Finance Minister André Schröder has warned.

German legislators first introduced the treaty in 2012, in order to create a safe gambling environment for the country's gamblers. The treaty allows licensed online sports betting services, capping the potential number of available licences at 20. This provision was later contested by the European Union’s Court of Justice on the grounds that the cap on licences prevented the free movement of services between EU member states.
